“Picturing”

A lot of folks are pretty visual and also like to see images of people and businesses they know only from the Web. We've put together some photos for just those folks.

What is The Printery?

The Printery is a private press founded by Kay Michael Kramer in 1970. Learn more about Kay’s typographic philosophy as it relates to book design, and some facts about his background.

Tell me about publications produced at The Printery

The Printery produces works of historic and scholarly interest on a variety of topics. We have produced books on topics ranging from the history of printing, to Benjamin Franklin, to colonial America, to trans-Mississippi exploration. In addition, we have also printed pamphlets and ephemera. These were usually printed for a conference or event we attended.

We currently offer a few books and booklets and broadsides for sale.

Are there any other Printery books?

Yes, but they are out-of-print. Each publication is a limited press run, so once we’re out of a book you can buy it only on the secondary market. However, we include a listing of those books here so you’ll have a feeling about other Printery products.

Who buys your books?

Individuals with an interest in fine printing or private press books frequently purchase our products. Also, of course, The Printery’s products are purchased by individuals with a specific interest in the content.

However, about half of each press run is purchased by public and private libraries that have collections related to the book’s subject, fine printing, or the history of the book.

Other available books

The Printery has related book collections and although it is not a bookseller, it occasionally has duplicate copies of a book as a result of the acquisition of an inscribed or association copy, a copy in better condition or with dustwrapper or slipcase in place, or a purchase at auction as part of a lot.

These books from our library would appeal to typographers, printers, and book collectors with varying interests.
